Trump Impeachment Motion Defeated

On expected lines, the impeachment motion got defeated in the republcan controlled senate. The senate polled 52 votes in favor to acquit him of charges of abusing power and 53 votes to acquit him of charges of obstructing congress. Thus the democrats motions in the 100 member senate house failed since its strength is only 47. One less vote on the first charge was due to Mitt Romney who was presidential candidate in 2012. He toed party line on impeachment though. 

Trump said that he did nothing wrong. Donald Trump had all the praise for his legal team as warriors. He was happy at their assurance. He thanked Mitch McConnell. He said that his critics wanted to destroy the country. He criticized FBI leaders and specifically Mitt Romney who voted to convict him.

Trump claimed vindication after one month of impeachment trial motion.
