Vijayawada BTS Army rules the show

PVP Mall, 1st February 8 pm show, i.e., a few hrs earlier than now. All tickets were booked. Show was full. 98% were Girls, teenagers mostly and college girls. Right when the credits started, the euphoria of BTS Army started. Through the show, the energy levels of the youth were so high that continuously they danced, shouted and like in a live concert, switched on their cell phone lights and continuously waved.

Move over Indian Cinema, that is what i thought. A Band which sings in their own language has captured the attention of global youth. I never imagined that I would see so many fans of BTS in my hometown, Vijayawada, my daughter being one of them. By interval, the girls had come to the front of the stage and started to dance along with some boys. In all the movies i have seen in recent years, there has never been so much energy every second in the theatre.

Music has no boundaries, they say and rises above language, creed and regionalism. Korean Band BTS has proven that today in Vijayawada. I am sure that if ever there were a concert in India, some of these children would force their parents to take them there like many of the school kids forced their fathers and mothers to bring them along to the movie. The college going students were on their own.

I formed an online Youtube channel, BTSARMYVijayawada then and there in the theatre and uploaded all videos I have taken there and informed the same to all the young kids. In the days to come, I see a vibrant community forming across India. Already, there are many Taylor Swift aficionados.

Compared to these, closed community movies in the industries erect huge entry barriers not allowing other talent to rise forcing them to move to Youtube. Many youtube stars are ordinary people. They have proved that the Internet breaks social barriers too. They would have never gotten an opportunity in real life in either serial or movies. But in Youtube, they are showcasing their talent while our stars keep dancing with heroines who are younger than their daughters and still beat 100 people with one fist, do not die despite several bullets hitting them but villian dies with just one bullet.

I feel that the Indian Movie industry will decline over a period of time due to these huge entry barriers. Only innovative industries like Malayalam which have low entry barriers will continue to innovate both in terms of script but also in terms of simplicity and encouraging talent from all quarters.

For now, BTS will rule Youth. The boring routine TV serials are a staple diet of older generation women. Barring them, no one bothers to see them is evident from youth’s fascination with foreign music and stars. It is their fault by repeating the same old routine: jealousy, revenge infested serials often scheming relatives within the family. Korean dramas have become very popular with youth these days. These youth will never again see boring Indian TV serials ever again.

In January, I have seen most releases and deliberately ignored big star movies since big star movies do not have scripts at all as evident in the past five years of their movies. They produce movies with political undertones stressing on their blood again and again which are dialogues for their caste obsessed fans. As long as caste obsession continues in AP, these stars will have a small market but not a large market at all.

Many kids were in front of the stage. I asked many kids what they were studying. The school kids were all seventh, eight, and ninth graders. College students were junior college students mostly and few were degree students. I felt that this obsession is far better than caste obsession of movie stars as is rampant in Andhra Pradesh. Children need to grow in a casteless society and music crosses all boundaries and unites people. This was one of my best experiences with kids. I am sure they will be involved as community soon in Vijayawada.
