Study at Home-Disruption in Class room Teaching

Several Industries have witnessed the disruptive effect of Digitalization/On-Demand Service Models, right from restaurants to taxis. While some have disrupted the ways industries operated earlier, others have institutionalized this disruption. The disruption has commoditized established industries especially with the deep discounting offers being given by disrupters drawing on their venture capital funding and thrusting them on the participants.  This deep discounting actually caused several states to even ban these services for their harmful effect on the industries.

Education is becoming a on-demand service with rapid adoption of elearning. Classroom coaching in schools, colleges & universities is definitely going to be disrupted very soon.

Covid has brought before us the potential disruption of the education industry. Students have been exposed to high quality academic lectures online which were not available to them earlier. This has made parents think why not pursue this full time instead of temporary pursuit till schools are opened.

There are lakhs of parents in the country who are vexed with the rote model of exam focused education system in which the child has neither any choice nor freedom. The current education system is not inclusive in that the school management imposes their ideas and never bother to take feedback/suggestions from parents. For the namesake, parent teacher meetings are held but no redressal is done in these meetings of serious issues that affect the child. The child is expected to comply as in military training to the pace set up by the school instead of the pace that the child naturally has.

Lakhs of parents have explored homeschooling and thousands took the plunge yet they today have the support of e-learning systems which compensate for the lack of classroom coaching by high quality videos online. They are available from international systems as well like Wolsley which prepares students in IGCSE syllabus for a fee. When online lectures are better than classroom lectures,why shouldn't parents homeschool their children is a rapid driver for homeschooling.

So, the child has now the choice to study in a global curriculum listening to international teachers allowing them to bloom faster than others. These tools have given homeschooling parents the tools they needed to train their children. The child is now free to exercise his free will and develop his innate talents. 

Lakhs of students in India stop education after 10th,join jobs and pursue private education. For them today, the choices are many. Instead of spending time in a hostel preparing for JEE, the student can at his own pace in hiw own home study for JEE taking online classses while writing the exams privately.

Even for normal college students,online courses availability allows them to equip themselves with what the industry demands. They can pursue these courses directly while pursuing their academic degrees online. So a disruption is slowly emerging. Covid gave parents the chance to understand the benefits of online learning. So from School to College, Online Learning is here to stay and it is not just a temporary measure till classes are reopened. 

Technical courses like computer science engg can be pursued from online while those requiring field work will still continue to be offered in classroom. There will be a disruption which will happen in very short time, not in decades, but in years and even months, it might happen. The growth rate of homeschooling in the current year will be proof of the same. 

Students might be more tempted by online learning to avoid raking up debt by studying full time.  There are several industries which offer lucrative careers if one has knowledge even without a degree. Content platforms are showing how creativity guarantees a career. Degrees can be obtained through distance learning. So that frees the student from attending lectures. Thus Content industry needs no degrees. There are horde of skilled industries which actually need just the still and no academic degree to go with.
