Child Sexual Abuse

The other day, saw this webseries, Suzhal, on Prime Video. The story is about two sisters who are sexually abused in childhood. In present generation too with so much internet penetration, child sexual abuse still persists behind curtains. Close family members are always the perpetrators and the families are always disjoint. Parents who do not have time for their children and focus on their careers instead.

In my novel Levonas Tears, the protagonist seeks love where it is found. When the parent does not fulfil his/her role, obviously some other care-giver steps in and that person is mostly a relative or family member. In some cases, it is the father who perpetrates the abuse. In majority of the cases, the children ran to the abuser to escape from their parents scoldings. The abuser showered love and protection from the parents scoldings. The child had a refuge to whom they would keep rushing to whenever they needed love. This love is abused without the children even realising it. The weapon of control is the child’s need for love.

The child grows up to become a reclusive introvert though her external posing is as a strong extrovert and forever seeking attention for attention deficiency was what caused her to seek love outside. She starts hating her body and gains authority through offering her body in extreme situations or shielding herself from all trust situations by becoming totally introverted. In the webseries suzhal, the doctor reveals that the abuse victim when she represses her memories, a period she does not want to go into, it is called dissociative amnesia. This causes health problems in her which is not understood by normal doctors since all health factors look normal.

We need more discussion and debate on what happens to the abuse victim in adulthood. This is missing in most movies and books. Many lives are involved and many truths need to come out. Hence real stories get suppressed and rarely the truth comes out. The abuse victim too wants to forget and rarely mentions her abuse in public. As a healthy society, these abuse victims need understanding and more care than normal ladies. It is very tough being partner of a child sexual abuse victim. The partner undergoes lot of pain too since the repressed memories come to haunt lifelong for many.
