SUNsetting in movies

In movies unlike politics, there is no fear of SONsetting ala the Shinde model since movies are individualistic. Nepotism runs deep in the film industry with only a few families restricting entry for outsiders. This runs not just in Bollywood but in many other woods. OTT has destroyed that entry barrier by bypassing the Nepotism link and directly reaching the audience for small movies.
Recently saw movies of few 60+ stars. I have been watching their movies since i was a school kid and like them. Have been saying this for sometime but some 60+ stars does need to retire or slip into elderly roles. They still beating dozens of people at one time or trying to romance heroines their daughters/son’s age does not sound appropriate. Fans clubs keep delaying that eventual retirement for these stars. They do not have the agility that they had in their 20s yet they are acting in roles that require agility. The director can try his best yet he cannot bring into the star the agility that marked his youth. They have been ruling in the top 5 for 40+ years. They should step aside and make way for the younger generation. We have immense respect for these stars but they are getting old.
Their scions constantly being in their fathers shadows till date have not been able to guarantee a win. The days of star heroes/scions movies getting hit regardless of the story script are over. Mass masala does not work anymore. Those movies and those politically loaded movies have to earn their money from OTT only. Box office will not support those movies beyond a week.
I admire Amitabh Bachchan since he has been in limelight even in a patriarchial role. If my memory serves me right, it was n Mohabbatein when i saw Amitabh in a senior role yet carrying the grace that he is associated with. Amitabh is Power personified for those of us who have since childhood admired our Shahenshah. He carried movies like Baghban on his acting strength though there was no younger generation star in the movie barring salman for a brief period. His performance in Black was exemplary. Infact it has been 20 yrs since he shifted from mainstream yet he continued to be in limelight atleast till lockdown.
We have seen how Shinde took over Shiv Sena not ready to accept leadership of Aditya Thackeray. Many parties are on their verge of extinction due to SON rise. In movie industry, several stars shadow constantly falls on the scions. Till they sunset themselves, their scions will not attain the capability to carry a movie on their own. Many scions never took any formal training classes in acting. They came into movie industry to claim their inheritance but in the movie industry, unlike politics, dynasty does not work; only talent works especially moreso in the OTT world. Since lockdown ended, hardly one in ten movies of scions scored a hit. Lockdown opened audiences to OTT giving them choice. These days, I watch southern cinema whichever has good script. Bollywood too has script issues. Stars and some scions should retire/pull out gracefully. Not all are cut for acting. There is no harm in accepting the same. They can succeed in some other field.
