Christina Koch returns from Space

NASA Astronaut Christina Koch has set an alltime record by staying 328 days in space. She stayed along with Luca Parmitano from the European Space Agency& Alexander Skvortsov from the Russian space agency. They were extracted from the Soyuz descent module which landed in Kazakhstan.

The previous record for a female was 289 days set by NASA veteran Peggy Whitson in 2016-17. Peggy was inspiration for North Carolina engineer Koch. She also made first ever all woman spacewalk in October 2019.  She will be undergoing medical testing in Germany and then head back to NASA headquarters.

The team’s stay in space will help NASA prepare for other long space missions.  It will also help understand how weightlessness & time in space affects the female body. Women in space have come a long way since Russian Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space in 60s.

Christina has been congratulated her for her record and said that she will be an inspiration for young American women. Other people holding long space records are Scott Kelly at 340 days and Russia's Valeri Polyakov at 437 days.  NASA wants to build permanent space station on moon.
