Balaji Temple at Naimisaranya

 

Balaji Temple in Naimisaranya is a very prominent place, one among the 108 Divya Desams of the Alwards. Lord Vishnu is worshipped here as Devarajan along with his consort Pundarikavalai(Lakshmi).  It is said that thousands of rishis used to meditate here.

Veda Vyasa narrated the Puranas and Mahabharata to his disciples. His disciples and son narrated it to other rishis. Thats how Puranas came to us through the word of mouth till they were written down.This is also the place where  Satyanarayan Story was told by Ved Vyas to Suta here who later passed on to Saunaka Rishi.  

All four Vedas were written here and so were the 18 Puranas - Vishnu Puran, Garuda Purana, Skanda Purana, Brahmand Purana, Ling Purana, Narad Purana, Brahma Purana, Padma Purana, Kurma Purana, Bhagwat Purana, Agni Purana, Markandeya Purana, Brahma Vaivartaka Purana, Varah Purana, Bhavishya Purana,Matsya Purana, Brahmand Purana.

The Suta Gadi (Soot-gaddi) is the shrine marking the place where Suta Goswami sat while instructing the assembly of sages.
