Peer Pressure

Peer Pressure
The Novel, The Peer

These days, Peer Pressure is too high. The other day, heard the news of a 18 year kid who committed suicide because his posted videos on TikTok did not receive hits and he didnt get many followers. In just 3 days of creating account, he committed suicide.

Why is there so much pressure of being liked from the kids? Peer Pressure more than ever has become very prominent after Social Media has come about. There are some kids who have become sensations overnight by creating some tiktok videos. Lakhs are trying everyday to have a viral video on TikTok. On Social media, some spend hrs checking if their posts hav got likes/comments.  If they do not get, they get disappointed and remain disappointed all day.

Why does success evade us but comes to others?  Why are we not so popular like the others? Why cannot we create a viral video? These are questions, answers to which are being sought regularly by thousands of people across the Globe. This kid committed suicide while others are feeling ashamed of not getting likes for their posts. Everyone who has a smartphone and is regularly posting carries this feeling. It is a addiction and since income is tied to it through ad revenue, many are leaving their full time jobs and focusing on creating videos for social media.

This kind of peer pressure is occupying the minds of younger generation more than their educational curriculum. Many just want to quit studies and be settled as performers on Social Media. They look at it as lifelong revenue based on the sucess stories of a few. This kind of peer pressure is building up internally in youngsters and causing several health problems.

They term it as achievement and not achieving the same is painful to them. They internalize this pain and this results in severe critical diseases.Though science does not accept it, depression does translate into physical issues when internalized and not resolved.
