Free Trade Agreements

Donald trump renegotiated many trade agreements which hurt america by giviing the exporting country more leverage. He got many of the countries to open their markets. India has a trade deficit with USA which has been prime concern of Trump administration which want India to open its markets for more american products if they have to accept indian imports of mostly services. 

USA has been asking for greater access for its agriculture and dairy products. India already imports several fruits,oils and nuts from USA. USA wants more access which would harm the interests of domestic farmers. Some of the trade deals it renegotiated allows more access for its agriculture products in other countries. USA had renegotiated many trade deals since it was largest buyer and in trump's words "easy to win" negotiations in favor of more USA access. 

USA wants more access for its medical device companies and reduced cess on its products.India has been buying military equipment from USA to lower its trade deficit. Trump has successfully stoked nationalism by leveraging its purchasing power with its partners.Declining global economy has blunted free trade across countries. Protectionism is on the rise. Globalization economists have been forced to accept the failure of globalization.Paul krugman said he never imagined that globalization will lead to massive upheaval of socio-economic structure domestically with loss of jobs to other countries. Globalization has made capitalists richer but countries poorer. It has destroyed domestic competitiveness in most countries. 

India is currently in final stages of negotiating its FTAs with USA per Piyush Goyal, cabinet minister in Modi government.
